IDS West Sneak Peek

This morning I'm off to do some beachcombing with the lovely Janis of Pinecone Camp where I'm hoping we'll find some gems for a possible DIY here on the blog. Janis took the above "sneak peek" photo of the IDS West Media Lounge recently for the upcoming IDS West show happening here in Vancouver October 14 - 17/10. Designed by Peter Wilds and Joanna Howard of The Cross, I'm loving the patchwork collage of wallpaper they did. See more of the sneak peek over at Janis' blog here.

2011 Calendar Round-Up

Beau Ideal

Contributor Post by Eva Jorgensen of Sycamore Street Press

When Jan asked if I'd like to do a post about calendars, I jumped at the chance. The only tough part about it was narrowing down all the lovely choices! This coming year, I may have to hang a different calendar in each room...

Party Down with Peppadew Peppers

By Jeannette Ordas of Everybody likes Sandwiches

I love parties. Not only am I fan of socializing with friends and drinking one too many cocktails, but I'm in love with the food. Nibblies, dips and things on sticks help to make up the wonderful world of appetizers.

One of the easiest things to whip up are these glamourous little bites. They look beautiful and they taste just as good. You can find peppadew peppers in the deli section of fancy grocery stores or on the shelves near the olives in your local ethnic grocery. They're slightly sweet and slightly pickled, and when stuffed with an herby goat cheese make an elegant little nosh.

Peppadew Peppers stuffed with Herbed Goat Cheese
1/2 small log of goat cheese, room temperature
1 1/2 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped
zest of 1/2 lemon, finely chopped
a good grind of black pepper
a tiny pinch of kosher salt
12 peppadew peppers

In a small bowl, mix together the goat cheese, chives, lemon zest, salt and pepper. Using the tip of a butter knife, stuff each pepper with the cheese mixture. Alternatively, if you're feeling fancy, you can use a pastry bag to pipe the cheese mixture into the peppers. La dee da!

Black, White and Rustic

annaleenashem.blogspot.com

Hello! It's Daniel and Valeria from Hindsvik Shop here to share one of our favourite themes for decorating your home: black, white and rustic!

Here we go!

Reclaimed dark woods give a lived-in feel to this white and modern space. We also love the grass print above the bed and the carpet brings a nice geometric element to the room.

Knits, raw wood and white plank flooring.

Woven baskets are also a good idea not only for storage but they also add texture to the room.

We love this open faced shelving and wooden kitchen supplies!

Industrial and vintage pieces bring character into a room and give it some history.

Black leather chair and antique wood desk.

We also really like the idea of painting plank flooring. It can look great in black, white, wood or a bright color!
