I'm giving Onyx a try, but my first problem is that three menu bar app's I use only show up on the menu bar when Onyx is selected.

I use Tiger Launch, Bluephone Elite, and Backlight. THese now show up on the left side of the menu bar when Onyx is being used and don't show at all otherwise. Any way to correct this?

Actually you can try it for free and it's fully functional as long as you only have 25 items in your library.

Having a free trial doesn't make it a free app, and crippled software is just that. No big deal, was just pointing out the title of the thread.

Can we turn on the feature that auto previews the first few words of the thread by highlighting the title?

It's a drag to have to enter each thread to decide if you want to read the whole thing.

I thought we'd left the idea of horrible back in the dark ages.

At least some of us have.

I saw the Swedish "Millennium series" films a few months back a couldn't help notice that when the protagonist was (wrongly) sent to prison, it looked more like a college dormitory than anything you'll see here in America.

likemyorbs would be horrified to see prisoners treated so humanely.

First off way to respond to the least important point in my post, i actually kind of expected that out of you. Treating them humanely and treating them like they're staying at a five star hotel are two different things. You're not supposed to make it so nice that people want to go there to escape the real world. Why should my tax dollars go to playstations and internet access for child molesters and murderers? That's beyond humane, that's just plain idiotic. Why don't we just provide them with their own butlers and maid service while we're at it? How about a cell phone too? What a joke, this forum sometimes feels like the twilight zone.

Despite what you, I, or a victim's family might want, incarceration is not punishment. Incarceration is the protection of the public.

Of course it's for the protection of the public, but it's also not supposed to be a pleasant experience, it's supposed to suck. If you don't think that, i don't know what else to tell you, you're just too separated from reality at this point to turn back.

I disagree with people saying it wasn't an issue.

I'm glad Apple responded. If it took pressure so be it. At least the company responds to the issue when it is revealed instead of denying it.

I think it's funny that many posts on these boards talk about the excellent value for the Mac Pro (decked out, costing > $4k!), but balk at a $600 phone. This after they've probably dropped $100 on thier existing phone, and $300 on their ipod. For an extra $200, wouldn't you like to have the sexiest phone on the planet.

Well, quite frankly, no. Not when the iPhone tops out at 8 gigs of memory and my current iPod holds 60 gigs and knowing that movies take up more than a gig of memory (why on earth create a device to watch movies that can't hold them?) And considering that all I use a phone for is to make and answer calls ... my RAZR plus iPod is actually a more convenient combination right now.

I say right now because I have zero doubt that Apple will -- 2 or 3 generations down the line -- turn this device into something I have to have. They will increase the flash memory ... they will add features. The killer ap down the line will be speech to text translation, making it possible to avoid the keyboard for everything but light editing. That will change everything and I'm sure Apple's working on it.

But given that reselling an iPhone will be difficult if not impossible, it's almost certainly best to wait and see if prices drop, features improve, battery life gets better, etc. I see no need to be the canary in the coal mine this time. Summer 2008 looks like a much better time to buy version 2.

I agree with the notion that people should try to take steps to avoid risk, and that people can greatly reduce personal risk by making safer choices.

But this nugget of wisdom does not really touch on the substance of the issue arising in the OP, to wit - how much responsiblity does a rape victim carry? Or, to turn the question around, how much of the rape is not the rapist's fault?

What kind of twisted logic hears of a rape decides that looking "like a prostitute" is the salient feature of the case? What about the crazed deviant who committed the crime in the first place? Indeed, I think Gelfin's analogy is apt - if a smartly-dressed man is mugged, should we simply shrug our shoulders and say "well, he looked like he had a lot of money so he was asking for it. He should have been wearing something less ostentatious."

It's also, by the way, fallacious to assume that only young, attractive and/or scantily-clad women are raped. Such suppositions are the product of the same twisted male chauvinist perspective that suggests that looking "like a prostitute" means that women are "asking for it".
As I have suggested, we cannot really know the answers to these questions without first interviewing (or obtaining transcripts of interviews of) rapists. Most of us on this forum are not rapists (I hope), so making broad inferences on what goes through such a monster's mind is rather pointless. If we can obtain a body of information that clearly demonstrates that rapists are commonly motivated by the victims' appearance/attire, then we can lend credence to the statement quoted in the OP. Prior to obtaining such evidence, to suggest that dress codes will improve school childrens' safety is at best unsupportable and at worst ridiculous. Odd that these "libertarian" types are back at attempting to steal away our freedoms.

Really? hahahahahah. What a ********** loser. "I don't care if you think I'm wrong and I'll shoot you with my big bad firearm collection. Look at the pretty pictures of it! I'm awesome and badass!" Internet badasses are about as lame as they come. Bwaahahaha.

Lets all quit feeding the troll, no one ever said they were going to visit him.

And even if one of his victims wanted to meet him to straighten things out peacefully, and he invited them to his house, and shot them, he would need to prove the person meant to harm or kill him, which given the victim came in peace with no weapon or intent, is impossible, that dumbass will be in jail before he's 25 cause he thinks he can shoot people for fun.
