This is from personal experience. I went through the canadian PR also and now have lost it. I have some friends in Canada and India who had to move because of failure to file for GC before 6yr H1. My view of Canada and other feedback is
It is not a first world country as they want you to believe.
The cost of living is very high though the salary is very low.
Cost of goods is almost the same or most of the time higher than in US.
Medical is by state (where applicable) but doctors are not good and the wait time is large.
Taxes are very very high.
I can go on and onnnn...

Fact - My 485 has not ben filied yet, still on mercey of Employer after giving them all the paperwork. My PD was current for June filing.
Rumour - The dates have been retrogressed already for July as USCIS already recd enough applications to fullfill the remaining visa number for this fiscal year. Also USCIS officers visited IV and could sense the number of applications that will pile up on July 1st hence they decided to retrogress and release the dates on Month to month basis.
Does this make sense !!

I did read that part and hence my question was if I am in the fourth/fifth year of my CA PR when I decide to go to CA, will I be allowed at least in the country.
Another question was if I am in my 4th/5th year and know that it might take me another year before I go to CA, can I apply for CA PR again, even when I already have my CA PR OR if I apply for my CA PR immediately after my current CA PR expires, would I get it again (assuming I have the necessary points)

Be honest, I don't know the real answers. You should find a lawyer to discuss this. I just share my thoughts. For your first question. I guess you should have no problem to enter Canada as long as your Maple card is still valid. However, I think when you renew your Maple card, you will have problem. For your second question. I think you can't re-apply PR as long as you still have the PR status. I think you may have to wait until your Maple card expires. I don't know the successful rate of re-applying PR. Enough point is one consideration, your intent to stay will be another consideration. I will be surprised if the immigration officer won't question you why you gave up the last PR status. You must prepare a good answer. Let me put in this way. Consider yourself is the immigration officer, will you question the applicant who gave up the status and re-applied again? Last advice. I do not know why this issue is more important for people to discuss. Just because Mr Khan is asked to be a common man? He is not a world famous actor. He is a famous actor to a very very small minority Indian Community in USA. Why should USA give VIP treatment to any star actor from any country of the world? If he was an official ambassador/senior diplomat/Minister, it us understandable. He is simply coming to USA to make money. He will still come again to USA to make money even if he is strip searched again and questioned for more than 66 minutes. Indian government seems to have crossed the line by complaining. This VIP culture that is so prevalent in India needs to change.
If Indian government really wants to complain, why are they not complaining against the long wait periods for H1B stamping in India. Ordinary Indian citizens going to India for stamping sometimes have to wait several months in the name of security checks. This takes a toll on their life and job in USA. There are several other issues Indian Citizens face in USA. If Indian government has chosen to interfere with the internal matter (in this case national security) of USA, why is it keeping quiet on other matter of importance to its citizens? Indian government needs to stick to its policies and not bend its rules for VIPs.
As someone said, if his intention was to publicize his new movie and make more money from his share of profit, he may have succeeded.

First of all, whether a person was traveling in official capacity or not was he profiled? Because of his name , skin or status? Whatever it is.
Second, if we give same treatment to brad pitt or tom cruise, would it be acceptable to americans and you too. Would it be a process or would you then dismiss it as nonsense and inefficiency of Indian admin? How you see things in perspective is also important.
Thirdly, Shahrukh, though not an official and is here making money, is a high profile person. His case and this incident , embodies the unreasonable and insensitive treatment many many commoners get by hands of inefficient US administration.
You pointed out right, hundreds and thousands are facing security delays, stamping issues, issues at POE etc. Thats what this incident highlights.
If a high profile person from India, Shahrukh, faces so many problems, then people can imagine the troubles of the commoners.
I would see this as a "representative" case for many Indians and highlighting it would give some negative publicity to CBP and restore some "common sense" in general.

Whether overflow happens vertically or horzontaly is subject to interpretation and we cannot really say if EB3 ROW is getting any undue advantage.....

I have done a lot of research on this :::
A good option is if you try and get a job in Detroit, MI. You can then live across the border in Windsor, ON and commute daily between Canada and US.Windsor is basically suburb of Detroit right across from Detroit river ex like Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad and Secundrabad etc.
This way you get best of both worlds
1) You keep H1B visa and US GC going.
2) You earn in US $ and can avail of US job opportunity.
3) You can earn time towards maintaining Canadian PR and Canadian Citizenship.
Disadvantage
1) This option is limited to getting a job/transfer in Detroit Metro area.
2) Some days there may be delay at border if US is on high alert, so you need to be conservative and add time for border inspection to your commute.
3) You have to file taxes in both US and Canada (but its not double taxes).

I might be moving to Canada next summer if there is no progress in my case here...My PD is Nov 2003 EB-3...I got my Canadian PR in May 2005 and I have until May 2008 to move.....So keeping my fingers crossed..I too work for a Canadian company in US.....Wish you good luck...

I have two interviews lined up in August for jobs in the Vancouver area. I will move in a heartbeat if the opportunity arises. incorrect versions of news... nearing to lies... if intentional... the lack of liquidity stems from the fact that subprime borrowers are finding it hard to keep payments going after their payments reset on ARMs. CDOs that were based on mortgages were rated highly by rating agencies based on precedent of earlier years started losing buyers because payments were not coming through (ie default) and that led to lack of buyers and then there was a general exit from the CDO market... investment banks (like lehman) are allowed by fed regulators to classify certain assets as investments and hence not re-evaluate value them (or mark them to market) every once in a while... however, in light of actual default on some assets and ensuing lack of market interest, they started writing down asset values... thats when they collapsed... there was no way people would have come back in 30 years to buy an asset for which the underlying payments had already stopped...
hope this sets the facts straight or at least gives a different point of view for people to chew on.
The 700Bn or whatever the final number is not entirely a drain.....
the thing with all these exotic securities is not that they are completely worthless but that there is no market for these right now and hence are illiquid - so if someone had the ability to keep these securities for a long term (say 30 years - since most mortgages are for 30 years) on their balance sheet - they may not lose as much money as they would if they tried to liquidate these investments in the short term.
Financial Institutions typically borrow short term to invest in long term investments and keep renewing the short term borrowings - since the underlying investment has become illiquid - it has become difficult to raise financing against it. the govt, howver, can take a long term view and be patient....who knows.....in the end - the Govt may actually come out with positive cash flow at the end of all this mess. So, the bail-out plan may not be as bad an idea as media is portraying it to be.........in short-term - it does take US into further indebtedness.
I already have a GC - so this debate does not impact me personally - but this is against the basic principals of natural justice.......GC applicants were placed into certain EB categories based on job descriptions and qualifications and then within queues assigned priority dates based on certain logic and are currently being approved based on PD and country quotas..........all these rules were known and published prior to companies and people applying for these GCs.....
No matter what the incremental benefit is, I think its blatantly unfair (like it was blatantly unfair to push some people to labor backlog centers and approving people with later PDs first) to change the rules of engagement and prioritization midway through the process and give preference to someone based on an ability to invest certain $$s in an house.......buying a house is a commercial and lifestyle decision........should not be a precursor to a USCIS adjudication.......

So that even if it rejected you have time to jump to direct vendor. My two freinds got victims of this rule recently this week only .Their transfer was rejected for this reason , Now they got the offer from Direct vendor , H1 trasnfer is in process . EAD should be unaffected by this memo.
There is no doubt Small Desi co. given fair chance to all kinds of people from remote villages. Then again they took unfair advantages too. Its time to wrap up their business now.

My daughter's current AP is valid till 10/3/2008. She has applied for AP renewal and finger printing is done. Now she needs to attend a course abroad starting later this month and will return to USA on 12/13/2008. Can she leave USA with current AP and return using new AP?

This was the response I got 3 years ago when I enquired, but I believe the process is different for each province in Canada, and you may want to talk to the person below for more details. Life after internship/residency is not that lucrative in Canada. You may be better off in the Middle East.

Thanks for the Information Sertasheep. I guess the middle East especially Dubai is a good option too. I guess the taxes would not be the issue unlike in Canada.

If graduating from an accredited medical college in he United States, he/she will have substantially less difficulty obtaining his/her license to practice medicine in Canada.
He/She will have to complete the qualifying examinations that are administered by the Medical Council of Canada. There are two of these exams. Information about these exams can be found at http://www.mcc.ca. He/She should not have to worry about being subjected to the international medical graduate programs since American schools have their degrees recognized by the licensing bodies in Canada.

Well, lemme give my 2 cents as I am from AP and follow politics very closely...I CAN TELL ONE THING - IF EVERYONE HAS THE SAME FACTS ABOUT SOME ISSUE, ESP. WITH ABOUT A PERSON, EVERYONE PRETTY MUCH COMES TO THE SAME CONCLUSION. So here are some of the facts, some first hand and some knowing by hailing from the area...
I have first hand accounts about the person....There are corrupt guys and then there was YSR...to the extent most of you would not even believe!!! One of my friends was a police officer, and told me that YSR openly used to intimidate them if they did not oblige...
It's funny someone mentioned that he had a vision, democratically elected etc., etc...My other friend comes from the same town as he, and told me how he literally 'ruled' the place with thuggery, force, intimidation, power, etc...
Oh yeah sure he was a doctor...Did he not buy that degree through donation education from Karnataka, during good old days?
Someone mentioned he was self made...He..Hee...He came from a well to do family, and then he made millions more through corruption, mining mafia, land grabbing, etc.
We already have (too much) religious stuff playing politics in India. Instead of separating religion from politics, he took it up a notch...We have govt. paying the hajj pilgrims and now he was trying to have govt. pay for people who visit vatican...Sure, everybody is free to practice his/her own religion, but why should the tax payers pay for these trips?
During the first term, it is a known fact that he allocated tons of treasury resources and govt. projects to his native area, even though other parts of the state desparately needed them...
He sidelined other congress leaders in the state so that he would not have another voice...so much so that even though congress won many more lok sabha seats in AP than in TN, he made sure that no more than one or two MPs from AP become members of central cabinet (compared to 4 or 5 from TN congress and dmk alliance), so that he would not have a rival with power in AP. Forget about the other developmental benefits that AP could have availed by having central cabinet ministers. This is not a speculation, but following the way he ascended in politics, and the way he operates, it's not a rocket science to conclude that...
When real estate in hyd exploded, he had his goons coming from his native place, illegally occupying the private land and govt. land alike. His brother and his goons are forcibly buying private land through intimidation. The sob even issued G.O. retroactively to pretty much legalize and take care of those forcible buyings.
And by the way did I mention how many died since he turned politics into a sort of blood sport in Cuddaph district? People are already talking about making his son the CM. This is height of degeneration...What a pity...
Now you might say, that's how it works in Indian politics, etc...But think about this way...
He was a corrupt guy to the core, governs like a dictator, amasses ill-gotten wealth, eliminates rivals through intimidation and killings...In the process, none of the ordinary people did not have any betterment in their lives over the past 5 yrs. (with the exception of a few of his loyalists) and funny that the Indian new papers (or rather we should call them tabloids) are dubbing him 'Man of the people', etc.
NOW TELL ME IF IT'S NOT A GOOD RIDDANCE, WHAT ELSE IS IT? I am not a proponent of someone dying an untimely death, but I am happy that it's a good riddance from the perspective of seeing an end to these dirty deeds, atleast from one person...I am positive everyone would atleast come to this conclusion...
