yarnpunk is a fiber artist living in the wilds of alaska. she spins, felts, knits, weaves, dyes, sketches, paints and stitches whatever inspires. what amazes me are all these wondeful yarns she spins. you can find them at her etsy shop. beautiful colors and textures to inspire the most beautiful crafts. you can also see more of her handspun goods on her flickr set.

10x10, lark8thave and photobooth fridays

every hour, 10x10 scans the RSS feeds of several leading international news sources, and performs an elaborate process of weighted linguistic analysis on the text contained in their top news stories. after this process, conclusions are automatically drawn about the hour's most important words. the top 100 words are chosen, along with 100 corresponding images, culled from the source news stories. at the end of each day, month, and year, 10x10 looks back through its archives to conclude the top 100 words for the given time period. in this way, a constantly evolving record of our world is formed, based on prominent world events, without any human input. interesting.

get well soon masks

i was a tad curious when i first arrived in tokyo (pre-SARS days), and happened upon this surgical-mask wearing civilization. at first i thought there was something i was unaware of. then i found out how considerate this accessory really was. and it only makes sense these get well soon masks were on the horizon.

created by BOONDESIGN in Tokyo, "sterile white gauze masks worn in cold and flu season become something fun and cheerful" as stated on the design+ site. "there are currently 15 types of masks, varying from animal whiskers and snouts to ruby painted lips and geishas - one even has a zipper so the wearer can eat."

back to the future

i know this is old news, but i keep going back to it; mesmerized, inspired, in awe. something in the wood combined with the cream and red paints that takes this folk art so much into the future. also the handmade font, so perfectly raw and if only it could be bottled. i love this. this is what i want to be inspired by today. thank you hula for introducing me to margaret's work.

mahar drygoods

sooooo adorable! i just got a tip on this lovely shop, mahar dry goods out of santa monica, california.

and then finding these was just the topping on the cake. these fantastic baby booties are made by heather's treasure box, and are made to order. size 0 to 6 mos. $24.







all the items at mahar drygoods are created in the homes and studios of artists, designers and crafters who are thrilled to be sharing their talents. based on a 1930s children’s book cover design, the site features illustrations by rhode island artist, jen corace.

fontshop news

i just received a copy of fontshop news, a newsletter from the seller of fonts online. a few good articles to peruse:

deciphering the fonts in blueprint magazine and
graff artists mix styles in the exchange

also if you're really into fonts there are some great font blogs out there. first off, appropriately named, fontblog by jurgen siebert if you're lucky enough to read german. and unzipped, by yves peters. interesting reads and downloads, or like me, if i can't understand the german, just nice to look at the pictures.
