Weekend Project: DIY With Bookhou: Paper Garland

This paper garland was such a fun and easy project, I also liked the fact that I didn't spend a lot of money. I used a store catalogue for the paper, but you can always use colour or pattern paper. I found that a light weight (like bond paper) works best. the heavy (card stock) type paper would not stay in place.



what you need:
-paper (I used a store catalogue)
-a large branch
-string
-cutting mat
-ruler, xacto knife, scissors, and a needle with a large eye.

step 1:
I took the staples off the catalogue and laid it down flat and used the knife and ruler to cut 2 in. strips. I also found the size of my garland I didn't need too many strips. After I cut the strips I folding the paper in an accordion style.



step 2:
I took the folded parts and and round out the corners - keeping in mind not to cut the folded parts- it should fold out with the shapes all attached.



step 3:
take the string and tie it on either end of the branch.



step 4:
take the needle and string and begin to sew through the paper cut outs. once you've done this you can spread them out to the desired distance. to add more garlands to the branch just repeat step 1-3.



I hope you like this - you can also experiment with the shape and scale of the cut outs.
