Call for Vendors: Second Storie Event (Buffalo & Rochester NY)

Second Storie}, an indie market in the Buffalo/Rochester area is seeking to include artists from all over the northeast and beyond for their Thanksgiving weekend event (November 29th and 30th). In addition to their low table fee that includes a beautiful setting, a table and linens, they offer live music, gifts for their vendors as well as delicious local snacks to keep them going! This year They're also ramping up their advertising to include design blogs as well as local publications. The event will take place at the gorgeous Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY.

Call for entries begins today and goes through October 27th!

a peek at handmade nation

Everyone's excited, I'm so excited, thanks to Kate we have some images she's sharing on her flickr of the new book, Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY, Art, Craft, and Design by Faythe Levine and Cortney Heimerl. Kate drew all of the illustrations for this book last fall and early spring and now it is here! The Art of the Display: Pony Party

Happy Fall everyone, and just in time for a seasonal entry with Rachel from Pony Party! What an awesome idea (found at our flickr group, The Art of the Display)! Rachel makes a note that she plans on changing out the paint by number with another seasonal painting when winter arrives. She also found a vintage wooden calendar (lucky girl) with removable months and dates so she added an eye and hook and will change those out each month too! (Maybe we'll find some of these goodies showing up at her etsy shop if we're lucky)!

nuria mora + the secret art of graffiti removal

A way while back I posted about the beautiful street paintings by Nuria Mora.com (above images) over at diesel.com, so long ago, I can't even find the link, and I thought I had linked it here, but too, I did not. So while visiting Abbey Hendrickson's blog, Aesthetic Outburst last week, I was reminded of the work of Nuria Mora when she posted about a film she watched recently, The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal by Matt McCormick.

Although Nuria Mora isn't removing graffiti, but applying it, we love the similarities, and we are looking at graffiti removal in a total different way now. There also is a “The Secret Art of Graffiti Removal” flickr group. Click here to see. Thanks Abbey!

Some very talented designers that are quite well known online amongst us have both recently come up with some new and beautiful textiles for us to oogle over.

Lucie Summers has opened up a new etsy shop called, Summersville selling hand screenprinted fabric for smaller craft projects and Skinny LaMinx has a few new pieces as well, including this LAVA teatowel inspired by mid-century West German ceramics.
