Holiday Inspiration: Succulents, Air Plants and Flora Grubb

I can never get enough of Flora Grubb. Everytime I visit their site, I'm always inspired and want one of each and everything they make. And as you can see from these pictures, this season they don't disappoint. Love the idea of a succulent wreath or air plant ornament don't you? And those pots, to die for.

A Bright Christmas

The talented, Will Taylor of Bright Bazaar showed us his latest styling shoot for the December issue of Rue Magazine, styling the same room three different ways for the holidays. The technicolor one stole my heart. Congrats Will!

DIY: Snowflake Panels from Free People

The folks over at Free people posted a DIY on their blog yesterday on how to make some snowflake panels. A perfect little project for this time of year. Especially if you are drape-less like us. I may try this. I like how they all link together. Sort of like the Snowflake Curtain we posted about last year, just more linked together. (Update: Idea was adapted from dsponge; Image via dsponge ).

DIY: Natural Wood Tree Stand

We love this DIY Tree Stand idea that Stephen and Shauna of Something's Hiding in Here did for Urban Outfitters' blog recently. While hiding in the woods at their favourite spot, they brought their fake Christmas tree, drill, paddle bit and scrap paper and created a unique rustic holiday setting. See the how-to here.

A fun and crafty approach to something we saw back in 2008 by All the Luck in the World which we're thinking inspired the one over at Free People this year (below). What are your tree traditions? The Art of the Display: Department Store Holiday Windows

I've always loved store display windows, especially during the holidays. My uncle was a window display artist and made a huge impact in my life with regards to design. He was well respected in his industry and had major talent. Every year I love hiking downtown to look at Department Store window displays however was disappointed this year as the Hudson Bay Company didn't have their traditional holiday display due to the Olympics display (apparantly not enough time to take down and put up) - rather sad. So I went hunting online for a few treasures to feed my soul. (Thanks to twitter.com/storewindows for many of these links).

The Gothamist has a post on New York's displays. From Barney's SNL-inspired windows to Lord & Taylor's more traditional display.

Anthropologie at Rockefeller Center in New York seems to be my favourite so far. See pictures here, here and here and another favourite here (using old school chairs and rulers). Also check out their flickr pool of many of their windows across the world.
