Good afternoon everyone! It's Summer from Design is Mine and this is my last guest post here on Poppytalk. I have had such a blast doing this- thanks so much for reading!

To wrap things up, I would like to share something that shares three of my biggest loves: interior design, art, and Portland. I spend such a large portion of my time browsing through beautiful interiors online and have found that not only are Portland artists extremely talented, but they tend to have some pretty gorgeous homes. I find few things more wonderful than seeing little corners of the homes of some of my biggest inspirations.

Special Guest Post: by Design is Mine

Bonjour! It's Summer from Design is Mine posting again. Have I mentioned that I am having a ton of fun guest blogging? I really am.

One of my favorite ways to spend my time has always been hanging around bookstores, but being a mum of two little ones, this now means always being led over to the children's section. Here I am almost always asked to flip through the same picture books over and over and over again. Usually, I find this to be somewhat of a chore, but recently I have been finding a large amount of beautiful kid's books that I truly enjoy looking at. As it turns out, many of my favorite artists (ones who are known for album art, posters, and prints) are now illustrating children's books, which I must say is quite a pleasant change from what I think of as the general boring book art.

Anyways, it is quite late here in Portland. I could really use a sweet good night story myself.

Special Guest Post: by Design is Mine

Hello again from Summer at Design is Mine! It is my second day blogging here and I am feeling quite inspired. One of my favorite things about this site is following Jan's love of collections, something I also share. I am constantly inspired by people's homes and the objects in which they choose to fill them with, especially when they choose a specific grouping of them. I love that there are usually stories behind a collection, whether it started from a family heirloom or just a deep adoration of a specific animal or shape or color scheme.

As early as I can remember, I have been collecting things. I can recall piles of old photo albums all around my bedroom filled with glittery stickers and a trunk filled with every My Little Pony there was. I have gone through periods over the years of collecting, from the overly kitschy to the simple and minimalistic. Within our home, my love of collecting can be seen all over the place: a cabinet displaying Japanese toys and vintage Dream Pets, a drawer in the kitchen stuffed to the brim with old aprons, frames and boxes filled with random family photographs from the early 1900's, walls covered with estate sale snagged portrait paintings, and a kid's room filled with vintage Fisher Price toys. I have a yearning to start even more collections in the future.

I am happy now to share with you some beautiful collections from some wonderful photographers and friends. (Also, did you know Jan runs a Flickr group for collecting? So wonderful.)

Special Guest Post: by Design is Mine

Hello folks! My name is Summer and I run Design is Mine, a weblog dedicated to all things lovely and well-designed. I am quite honored to have been asked by Jan to be a guest blogger this week on Poppytalk. Thanks, dear!

I reside in Portland, Oregon. When we (my husband and first child) moved here from Southern California in 2005, I was in complete awe of how many truly creative individuals that the city attracts, from musicians to illustrators to photographers to fashion designers. Four years later, and I am still in constant amazement of this, finding more and more of my favorite artists relocating from all different parts of the country to reside in this beautiful city. Really, creative folks are all over this place. I blame the good vegan food, gorgeous scenery, and ever-flowing delicious coffee. And of course, us Portlanders have a lot of indoor creative time due to a whole lot of rain.

For my first post on here, I want to share the work of some of my favorite local artists. These people inspire me greatly and make me proud to call this place my home. Enjoy!
