It’s my last day as a Special Guest here at Poppytalk and I’ve had a great time! Many thanks to Jan for being such a gracious hostess! On my last day I leave you with one of my favorite trends. It may be old news, but I am madly in love with everything folksy. I found the tray above at a thrift store and let out a little yell of happiness. If it has a strange little couple holding hands on it…I want it! Windmills? Sign me up.

I’m not kidding when I say that it took everything I had in me not to snag these two finds from etsy seller Modish Vintage. (I know…let everyone else have a turn, Abbey)


Mara Murphy and Anna Branning of dutch door press are putting a new spin on things with their equally irresistible line of folk-inspired stationary.



Perhaps we can store all of our cards and vintage finds in this cabinet by Lucas Rise (that I originally saw on Design Milk). Oh, and we should definitely keep the cabinet in this amazing barn (photo by RandomConnections). I think that’s the perfect solution, don’t you?

DAY 4: Vintage Etsy


I’m a sucker for aesthetics and old graphic tins (that’s part of my collection above). While I can certainly find great things on ebay, I always find myself drawn more to the artful way that the vintage goods on etsy are photographed. It’s like having a ton of artsy friends who are always showing you great thrift scores. Here are some fun tins from some of my favorite vintage etsy sellers…

I’m sure it’ll come as no surprise that I like piles of things and lately I’ve been really inspired by piles of wood. My father-in-law cut these small wood pieces for me to use on a project that I’ve still not started (don’t tell him though). I can’t seem to get over how lovely they look just as they are. DAY 2: BEAUTY IN MUNDANE


You’re back! Today I wanted to share one of my other obsessions. My husband and I…okay, okay…I collect bread bag ties. Yes, bread bag ties. I came across a giant bag of them at a yard sale for 25 cents and then our friend Marcie found some and helped the collection along. I’ve been collecting them for four years now and love the variety of colors. Plus, anything looks better when you put it under a cloche, right? Carbohydrate intake aside, collecting something like this is based on my personal interest in finding beauty in the mundane. If we’re going to get more philosophical for a minute…just a quick minute…I think our generation is working towards teaching others to do the same (hello, DIY movement). Here are some examples…

Hello there, Poppytalk readers! First a quick thank you to Jan for inviting me to be a Special Guest. So fun! I like to think that I’m the type of guest who brings red wine, makes the bed, and cleans her own dishes. I guess we’ll see about that, right? I thought I’d start off this week by welcoming you into our world and sharing some of the things you’d see if you were a guest at our house. My husband and I are major thrift store junkies and are always bringing home new finds. For the last few years we’ve been particularly crazy for vintage pull-down school maps. The map above is hanging in our baby’s room.
Yes, you can find them on ebay, but my secret source for vintage maps (that I’m trusting you all to keep on the down low) is at your local school or university. Many universities have map collections and will de-accession outdated maps and schools are also often itching to unload their old pull-down maps. And that, my friends, is when you swoop in and cordially take them off their hands. I’ve also found them on school surplus auctions like this. If I haven’t convinced you yet, here are some other map images that I find inspiring…

This week's special guest here at Poppytalk is Abbey Hendrickson of Aesthetic Outburst. Many of you are aware of her beautiful art I'm sure, as well as her amazing vintage finds and collections.
