Field Trip: One of a Kind Show, Vancouver

A few highlights from our visit to the One of a Kind Show yesterday morning. Heather from Dahlhaus had some new pieces at her booth, the hanging planters (which I just loved) and her beautiful new striped line.

robyn drage

The last of my posts on the One of a Kind Show (Vancouver) that happened this past weekend, starting with (above) the work from Robyn Drage and her mixed media paintings (ceramic painted tiles that almost look like photographs and then applied on a wooden panels). Really lovely.

Below: Ceramic sculptures by Lilach Lotan of Nanaimo, B.C. (ceramic-art.ca).

One-of-a-Kind Show Wrap Up - Part Two (Hob Snobs)

Continuing on with our One of a Kind Show wrap up, congratulations goes out to the Hob Snobs Craft Collective for receiving the "Best Booth" of the show. Hob Snobs is (from left to right) Valerie Thai of Cabin + Cub, Sasha Berry of Track and Field Design and Jeannette Ordas of The Beautiful Project (who's also a contributer here at Poppytalk every Wednesday offering up her Yummy Treats from Everybody Likes Sandwiches).

Below, Cabin + Cub's (even more beautiful in person) limited edition mixed media collage prints which look amazing in Ikea frames. (I bought the two bird prints myself).

Track and Field Design had fun messenger and laptop bags, pillows, broaches and pouches. I picked up the small plaid messenger bag (bottom photo).

Booth Tip: I loved their idea of getting a vinyl decal made for their logo (they sent a digital file to a printers) and then just applying it to a painted light blue wall at the back of the booth. This was really effective (and affordable), and pulled their pieces together really well, making their booth look like a mini store.

One-of-a-Kind Show Wrap-up (Part One - Student Works)

kate beckett1

This weekend was the One of Kind Show here in Vancouver and so I headed out on a very crisp fall Sunday afternoon to check it out. One of my favourite things about going to the show is seeing the new student work highlighted there in a special "school section". And this year didn't disappoint. Starting off from Emily Carr University of Art and Design: Top (and just below), ceramic miniature bottles/vessels from Kate Beckett, in a creamy white and blue glaze (a show favourite)! No website. All artists can be contacted through the school. Click here for contact info.

One of a Kind Show - Vancouver

oneofakindshow1
This weekend was the first ever One of a Kind Show here in Vancouver so I took a trip down to check it out. I was suprised not only how big it was, but also at the participation from crafters and artists south of the border. There was representation as far south as New Orleans, but the majority came from the Pacific Northwest.

regionalassemblySome fun things were floating about the booth shared by Regional Assembly of Text, Blim and Malaspina Printers. (All items shown from Regional Assembly of Text - apologies for the blurry photos here - it was so crowded in that little booth - it was nearly impossible to take any photos). Note: Malaspina Printers had some beautiful prints and to be honest I felt strange to take pictures there - but they are having a Winter Print Festival this coming Thursday, Nov. 27th from 6 - 8pm. They are located on Granville Island at 1555 Duranleau Street. malaspinaprintmakers.com.
