One of a Kind Show - Vancouver

oneofakindshow1
This weekend was the first ever One of a Kind Show here in Vancouver so I took a trip down to check it out. I was suprised not only how big it was, but also at the participation from crafters and artists south of the border. There was representation as far south as New Orleans, but the majority came from the Pacific Northwest.

(All items shown from Regional Assembly of Text - apologies for the blurry photos here - it was so crowded in that little booth - it was nearly impossible to take any photos). Note: Malaspina Printers had some beautiful prints and to be honest I felt strange to take pictures there - but they are having a Winter Print Festival this coming Thursday, Nov. 27th from 6 - 8pm. They are located on Granville Island at 1555 Duranleau Street. malaspinaprintmakers.com.

Treatzone Preview at Renegade SF

tz_gilded&gelded_full

Oh the Renegade is coming to San Francisco (the 1st annual) this weekend and I've got a sneak peek from the folks at Treatzone today. This is their first big craft fair, and they're bringing some new items with them like their "Gilded and Gelded" gocco prints over watercolor (gotta love those), button trios made from vintage wrapping paper and sheet music, vintage alphabet buttons, and puzzlers--upcycled toys with the original art replaced with mini-collages from vintage papers and they will also be bringing all of the stationery and prints they currently sell on Etsy. And they are also going to do a nice little re-cap of the fair for us here which we should have for you Monday if you're like us, want to see it all!

Renegade madness part 2!

GUEST BLOGGER: kg + ab

All right - so Saturday ended so soggy and wet - it continued to storm all night, but thankfully cleared up by the morning. When we got everybody out of bed and loaded up for the fair, it was nice and cool and hazy. There were a few showers, early on, but nothing major, thankfully! Ok, enough about the weather, I'm starting to sound like my Granddaddy - (my bones were aching, too!)

Sunday seemed to bring just as many if not more crowds than Saturday and people were still running around checking out the stalls after 7pm! I was one of those crazies, trying to see everything while taking turns manning the booth and keeping track of the baby and dog with Mr. ab. So here's the 2nd installment of neat stalls and interesting stuff. Oh, and I want to send out a super apology to Pistachio Press (www.pistachiopress.com) for not getting a chance to stop by and say hi!

You have to love the display case - genius! And all the work fits in so nicely - where do you start - the hearts, the logs, or the wishbones? (or acorns or rock candy!) It was all witty and smart and delightful.

Bird and Banner

They had great cards and had the most lovely antique handkerchiefs that were silkscreened with sweet phrases like "home sweet home", "hi there" , and "when this you see think of me" . Their booth was so very nice and homey with the handkerchiefs hanging and blowing in the breeze.

Whew! I think it was close to 8:30 by the time we finally got the last few loads out - the pool looked much different without 200- ish stalls!

Renegade Craft Fair Brooklyn - Day 1: covered by Katherine of kg & ab

download

The day started out super hot. By the time the fair opened at 11am we had all already broken out in a major sweat. I can't begin to explain how hot it was. We were dousing the dog and baby with water to keep them cool! After a busy, hot morning/early afternoon, I left our table to Mr. AB and decided to check out the rest of the goings on - in search of great booths and great stuff. I was very excited to browse the fair and meet some fellow crafters (especially fellow poppytalkhandmade marketeers) Here are a few stalls that caught my eye:

Dear Birthday (www.dearbirthday.wordpress.com) - they make very sweet underpants and tops and accessories. The work was so very nice - the fabrics are unique and the colors are great - and their stall was super well put together. Their burlap sign is impressive -(complete with a unicorn) and they even had a changing room to try things on.

Sycamore Street Press (www.sycamorestreetpress.com) had a fantastic set up and incredible paper goods. Smaller items were displayed in milk glass containers and pyrex and she used vintage suitcases to show items as well. The cards and paper goods are in the sweetest pinks, greens, browns - so very nice! You have to check out the photo mattes, too.

So then it began to sprinkle (notice how the photos have that pre-rain haze?), and right as I am talking to Sycamore Street Press about paper goods at fairs in the rain (what a pain that must be), it starts pouring. Wouldn't you know it. I run back to our stall - where we were trapped for about 2 and a half hours in the rain and lightning and thunder and flooding. Super Maggie was across from us and they kept having to push on their tent top to keep the water from collecting and sagging the tent. A super few donned ponchos and were browsing (maybe three people), but most everyone totally huddled in a tent and waited it out. It was crazy. Our stall totally flooded - at one point we had about two inches of water in it. Needless to say, by the time the downpour eased up most all had either already taken off, or were in the process.

download-3down our "row" - you can see the rain drops!

download-4Coco, our kg + ab mascot with our piles of junk that had to come out from under our table when our booth flooded! It was so crazy.

I will be back tomorrow with a (hopefully) much drier report, and (definitely) more artists and stalls! Only two stalls today! geesh!
