I love this time of year, where new things are abound to oogle over! And I just caught these new designs over at Skinny Laminx! It’s called Cutlery, and it’s screenprinted on linen napkins and table runners, and soon on half aprons too! Check out the whole line here!

THREE SHEETS 2 THE WIND INTRODUCES FULL COVERAGE PRINTS

Three Sheets 2 the Wind's Creative Director and Owner, Jenny Sauer has just launched a new line of "full coverage" screen printed linen fabric (available in pillows and wall prints). Fabric yardage will be available for purchase later this summer. Each pattern is hand printed on 100% Irish Linen, on white or pebble coloured linen. The fields collection showcases three new patterns, ani windflower, fugi floral and prairie grass.

Skinny Laminx's Before and After Orla Chairs

How stunning are these orla-esque before and after chairs Skinny Laminx had covered recently using her Orla fabrics. One of her very first designs that was on tea towels first, she now has available in a rainbow of colours, screenprinted in waterbased inks onto a cotton/linen basecloth. Lisa Bengtsson for Bemz

Bemz came out in February with a collection of Lisa Bengtsson fabrics for their IKEA sofa and chair slipcovers, which I ran into again today with different eyes (maybe it's the spring flowers). I love the Baronessa - Green (above). See more here.

Got an Inkling?

I'm loving all the gorgeous hand printed goodness I've been seeing around lately, and here's one more beautiful example coming out of the UK. Kiran Ravilious is the designer behind Inkling Prints. Each design is hand printed using a block lino technique onto natural unbleached linen and cotton fabric. Available through her etsy shop and here at Poppytalk Handmade.

Laura Amiss is an illustrator and designer specializing in textile canvases and print. Having graduated in textiles from Goldsmiths College at the University of London, she now lives in Amsterdam with her husband and children and started working at the costume Atelier of the National Ballet and Opera House.

Her work is inspired by ordinary things, proverbs and poetry. She loves simple lines and subtle colour combinations. Her two passions are textiles and illustration which she has endeavored to combine the two in her work.

Manga-Inspired Textiles

Manga by a Swede? The world is just becoming so much smaller and smaller. Coming this month, IKEA will launch CHARLOTTA, a new collection of Manga fabric designed by Sweden's Åsa Ekström. A cartoonist or "mangaka" inspired by the Japanese way of creating comic-strip stories, Åsa creates a ficticious mix of well-known buildings in Scandinavia among which Godzilla stands on the CHARLOTTA TECKNING and then shows her love of Tokyo with the motif on CHARLOTTA BLOCK. I love the CHARLOTTA MÄRKE, a mix of Scandinavia and Japan where sh'es mixed Japanese tattooing with Scandinavian motifs, "A girl in manga style dressed in a Swedish folk costume and a Viking made with an old-world Japanese mask used on stage in Noh plays as a model”, Åsa explains. Inspiration: ID Textile

I love the beginning of January as that's when all the New Year's greetings come in from France. Rather than sending out good wishes before Christmas, it seems it is the tradition to receive them for the new year. Which is probably smarter from a marketing point of view, as we're all so bombarded before the holidays our inbox becomes a bit of a blur. So today I received a "Happy 2010" wish from ID Textile whom I've featured here this past year. It looks like they are up to more beautiful things for the new year featuring a mix of embroidery, yarn-dyed rags, knitted or crocheted ragged furniture and lampshades. Visit their blog to see more. I love always going through the shop of Swedish born, Virginia-based textile artist, Lotta Helleberg of inleaf design. Her work is so beautiful, and inspiring. She collects and cleans leaves which she then uses to print onto luxurious fabrics using non-toxic paints and eco-friendly reactive dyes. The result is a beautiful collection of lovely objects, that brings the deceivingly simple beauty of nature into everyday life.

New Skinny Laminx Pillows

Always a favourite here, South Africa's skinny laminx has some new pillows in her shop this week made from her beautiful textile pattern, Duikers. This design has ancient origins: the little drawing of a duiker that she used in repeat is taken from a 2000-year-old cave drawing in the Cedarberg, just a few hours north of Cape Town. It's part of her Sevilla Rock collection of screenprinted fabrics, all available in yardage.

The Duikers design is screenprinted with waterbased ink onto 100% cotton with a linen-look slubby texture, and overdyed in a natural tone. It's backed in natural toned cotton/linen, , and closes with a zip at the base. (Also available in green).

Tea Towel Love (cont'd)

I missed this lovely tea towel in my tea towel love post yesterday, but just passed by it today visiting Bloesem. Made by the talented Heather of Skinny Laminx, she designed this fabric from sketches of the things she liked best from the Ikea catalogue (they don't have Ikea stores in South Africa) and after someone sent her the catalogue she illustrated a wish list.

Her "I Wish we had IKEA" is printed in grey water-based ink on natural-toned cotton hopsack. Hopsack is a loose-weave 100% cotton fabric that is very absorbant, and perfect for drying the dishes. See more lovely pieces at her etsy shop.
