lensbaby
it's been a while since i talked about cameras. probably because the subject reminds me i don't have the cameras i want. a digital slr, a holga, a lomo , let alone all the accessories that go with them. oh did i forget a polaroid?
well just another item to attach to my long list is this lensbaby i found while reading its review by photojojo.
apparantly its a lens you can attach to your digital slr that will give you the beauty of a lo-fi holga. "your $150 buys unadulterated photographic fun--a cool effect reminiscent of a holga or a tilt-shift lens..."
thanks to poppy reader, karina from fototiller blog (a great blog all about foto's!) who left a comment last post, reminded me how much i like everything foto related.

ikea 2007
i'm with d* on the hopes that the kramfors sofa from ikea will be coming soon in this new green fabric.
it's a sneak peak at what ikea's 2007 line will be like. apparantly some great rugs, storage and lighting too.
construction cake
some crazy (beautiful) embroidery by dionne out of vancouver i found online recently at terminus1525.ca, a canadian artist online community site. lots to sift through, but this one caught my eye.
the perfect top
i've been having such a tough time finding tops this summer that i like. they are either too plain and boring or way overboard with stripes and things.
this joie carbon egypt top has potential. the color, feminine yet not overly so, can be dressed up or down.
sighted at outblush.
wild wood
this chair (which i keep thinking about) is actually a mix of color and tone engineered together.
machine-bent plywood seat, made in italy.
$149 from cb2.

pizza pie 1957 style
a 1957 cbc tv clip shows an audition for the homemaker's club on how to make a pizza pie.
the pizza dish, which she tells us is becoming popular in the united states, has three parts: a biscuit layer, the tomato sauce and toppings.
a tasty treat!
the calm kitchen
there is something calming about this new baby blue i'm seeing for kitchen accessories (as my friend sarah would say). and it's true; i'm being pulled in by these vintage colors and designs by typhoon too:
vintage blue espresso maker
$15 u.s.
vintage blue scale
$40 u.s.
vintage pitcher
$14 u.s.

scripts
i've been really noticing some nice script fonts lately and can't seem to stop thinking about them. (only other alphabet lovers could relate i'm sure). with that in mind, i've found a few that are on the shortlist to a soon download. firstly, radio from village.....
and then, bello from underware. digging the swashes. and also so many others at canada type i couldn't pin one exactly down but worth a look.

because 20 toes are so much tastier than 10, these adorable twin creepers (onesies) from me giant are so adorable (more so for us "copy-paste people"). pre-shrunk, 100% cuddly cottons are packaged as a set. $36.00.

photo essay - emily carr
an interesting photo essay on emily carr, one of canada’s great artists and most fascinating characters.
dominion post and salvage
i came across these cards the other day and thought they were rather clever. dominion post and salvage out of nelson, b.c., canada have handmade greeting cards inspired by vintage ephemera.
designer, fiona richards has become an expert at sourcing, collecting, manipulating and applying ephemera for use in design and advertising and now in her dominion post and salvage cards. her own personal collection of antique paper goods continues to grow and be featured in her work.
available at country furniture in vancouver (604)-738-6411.

stencil project
this stenciling project from the june issue of style at home (a canadian decorating magazine) reminded me of weekend projects gone by and this one i just had to share.
i have a similar dresser like the one shown here (a hand-me-down from my sister via my grandmother), and have shared many a weekend projects with it. painting it white, then staining it dark brown, back to stripping it to its now natural wood. it used to have a swinging mirror which got lost in one too many moves; but nonetheless still a favorite and now a contestant for this stencil idea. i love everything about this project. the wall color; the hanging lamp, and mostly the tangerine stencil. i'm thinking about actually doing it (am i crazy from all this renovating? oh well, it's messy anyway.) here are the links to do it. (click on image to see a close-up).
stencil - stencil library birds & blossom no. 1 (JA114) $73 u.s.(cut) or $36 u.s. (uncut)
paint - loomis art store delta ceramcoat in tangerine
glass knobs - lee valley tools $3.10 each

carumba!
i can't believe it's been over a month since my last post! back from our renovating adventure with ceilings now apart, electrical issues and so much more. i was hoping we'd have it all done by now, but that looks more like a summer adventure ahead. so i'm going to try to get back into posting in between reno jobs; work and the odd hopeful visit to the beach.
in my absence i managed to find a few good design things to share. first off with a detour to fontoville and some surfing baby and vertigo freebies for my alphabet friends!
and if you're really serious about it you have to take a look at the "unfreebies" carumba (love that word!) and elvis in stereo fonts!
some beautiful textiles coming out of toronto right now by illustrator, virginia johnson, former accessories designer for helmut lang.
according to canadian house and home mag, she is next focusing on developing housewares like quilts, ceramics, oven mitts and towels. her pillows now out are available at l'atelier, toronto (416) 966-0200.
i'm all about these posters from hammerpress out of kansas city.
designsponge did some great coverage of their work at the national stationery show in ny last month. read her article here.
amazing typography.
i like the idea of cath kidston being laura ashley's trippy fun cousin as commented in a recent post at apartment therapy.
her cowboy wallpaper is one of my faves.
speaking of children's wallpaper, absolute zero has some fun playtime wallpapers perfect for the nursery. the paper is wipeable (bonus!) too.
so much to catch up on and design to talk about i can't believe how much can happen in less than a month! looking forward to getting back on track!
