knitta

i haven't mentioned knitta here, and have no idea why. because i love the idea of "a tag crew of knitters, bombing the inner city with vibrant, stitched works of art, wrapped around everything from beer bottles on easy nights to public monuments and utility poles on more ambitious outings". (as it states on their site).

their slideshow.

graffiti by selective cleaning

graffiti artist paul "moose" curtis creates public art by cleaning dirty surfaces with a toothbrush and liquid cleaning solution. interesting concept. graffiti while cleaning.

see more at symbolix.

they also have some new cards to see there too! i love this press!

honorable-mention

saw these cassette belt buckles from honrable-mention being featured at modish.

love the striped blank tapes! only $15!

egg press online!

finally one of most favorite letterpress companies, eggpress, has an online shop where you can see a collection of many of their beautiful cards and now screenprinted t's and pouches! this woodgrain zipper pouch (duplicated from one of their cards) is definitely going to sell out fast; i just love this design. $22 (u.s.).

one of my favorites in their card section is their everyday collection which includes 3 letterpress cards and 2 offset-printed cards for $20 (u.s.). such a great idea to sell in sets online (to make it all worth it). the picture just doesn't do these cards justice, but trust me, they are beautiful in person.

the egg press studio is located in portland, oregon.

how-to wall display

love this idea for wall art as seen on san francisco apartment therapy by anh-minh.

she and her husband used large pieces of plexiglas to sandwich an array of sepia photos. brilliant!

100% design

i'm trying to grasp even a little bit of all the amazing design happenings in london this week at the 100% design event (sep 21 - 24/06).

the icon design trail is a good online source for all the happenings or at least the best 100 events.

featured designs like, susan bradley's creep products; bringing the creeping nature of plants indoors, in a range of side tables and shelves; and.....well, here's the list of exhibitors. (it should keep one busy for a week or so).

consciousness

this photo of an installation of found objects by sonja ahlers really says to me what is in the consciousness of a lot of us right now. i keep seeing lace, doilies, natural woods, vintage ephemera, black and whites.

you may remember i did a post on sonja last november at my gocco workshop.

i would really like to hear what you're seeing in design that hasn't been mentioned here. please leave a comment.

(you started something, regional assembly of text - lots of month clubs out there now)!

thanks for the tip jenny!

eco-artware

these boris bally house numbers caught my eye this morning when i saw them on eco-artware out of washington, d.c.

like his chairs, made from recycled aluminum traffic signs and hand-finished by the artist. all numerals are made to order but i'm thinking these more for inside as a piece of wall art. a great entrance or home office piece.

from $120.

graffiti art pit

walked by the graffiti art pit this past weekend for the vancouver fringe festival and wished i would've had my camera on hand, as alot of the art i saw i liked and of course i can't find online. they're having a silent auction ending oct 6th and the art can be viewed at the subeez cafe, 891 homer street, vancouver, telephone: 001 604 687-6107. a couple pieces that caught my eye were by chris von szombathy and alison lilly. sukie.co.uk

i quite dig this company out of the u.k. called suzie.co.uk; they have some fantastic papergoods and textiles. two of my most favorite things for anyone who has read my blog knows how i like papergoods and cushions.

to start off the screenprinted cushions (top left, bottom middle) in their scenic, almost vintage postcard hues. my most favorite, protozoa and chamonix. all £39.00.

next (middle top), their line of indian notebooks. inspiration taken from exercise books made by hand and found in markets across india. £5.95

rescued paper notebooks (far top right) are made by hand in england using paper collected by members of sukie. each book is made from a specific type of paper, for example: artwork, paper pack wrappers, envelopes, paper bags and plans. £11.50

hard backed photo albums (bottom left) is covered in linen fabric and screen printed. they are block bound and contain 42 card pages printed with a flower border. £29.95

lastly, their lined exercise books (bottom right) have rounded corners and are divided in two. one half of the book contains lined paper while the other half is plain. available in red, blue, green & pink. £7.50

it's been a while since i really had time to visit flickr, and came across this fabulous new sketch by camilla engman.

she posts, "she's starting to think/sketch her 2007 calendar". this year i hope to get a copy as i am in awe of this cowboy! i just love her work.

visit her online shop here.

belts + blogs

i lucked out today when i happened upon a blog called seersucker stories. what's funny i was trying to explain seersucker to some friends just the other day. nonetheless, that is not why i'm posting. i'm posting because the owner of this blog, jen makes these amazing belts at her other website, preppy potato.

i don't normally post about fashion, but sometimes design crosses borders and there are some fun designs on these buckles, and her 2007 spring ones are calling my attention. so i just had to bring them to poppy's to show a preview.

from baroque to modern, and a little bit of preppy - they are fun and i want one!
