    Oooooo, greasy screen!
iGorp screen cleaner sales will skyrocket.

Count me out of THAT idea. I can barely hold a mouse for very long, much less interact with my vertical computer screen.

The key point facilitating foreign intervention in Libya is the fact that one of the factions in this civil war invited us to participate, within certain limitations. This is not an invasion, nor is it unilateral action by any party. The entire affair is predicated on 1) The Libyan opposition's call for help and 2) A UN resolution sanctioning the use of force in Libya, with support froom the Arab league (and in this case NATO as well). The actions retain legitimacy so long as this broad coalition can be maintained. Obama has never suggested that the US should or would be involved except as part of a coalition.

Finally, it is clear that Obama is flouting neither the constitution nor congress by these actions. Any claim to the contrary is either misinformed or disingenuous. That isn't to say I am enthusiastic about the affair, or that I complately agree with the president's war powers as they currently stand.

But Republicans are trying hard to get maximum political mileage out of their criticisms, with the result that they are overstepping the mark.

    I agree.

I'm not surprised. Every administration grabs more and more power. I get depressed just seeing how everyone takes it as the status quo and defends it. The Constitution was set up almost as if to stop one person from being able to take up to war on a whim. Well, if Obama has that right, then George Bush III, or whoever will push the limits of his powers even further. I guess that's the power of precedence. If you look at the Constitution, it vests in the Congress the exclusive power to declare war. Things just have a way of changing. I thought Bush was bad enough with Iraq. Now Obama's actions are even worse than Bush's. Obama didn't even put up the charade of making a case.

Looking at the history, Congress has often taken a backseat to presidential authority on these matters going back as far as Apache wars (1840-1886). Moreover, even in the modern age after the War Powers Act, four administrators have invaded five countries without express Congressional approvalthe Iraq AMF being an abdication rather than an express declaration of war.

Reagan invaded Grenada; Bush invaded Panama, Iraq, and Somalia; and Clinton bombed the Serbians.

Moreover, the Korean war also went without an express Congressional approval, rather it operated under UNSCR order. Vietnam was operated under a manner similar to the Iraq War, without an express declaration of war, but with authorization by Congress.

Rather than looking at it as a power-grab, you should instead evaluate whether or not the use of force in the above instances fits within the paradigm of Libya. I think it does.

The specific application of force by US warplanes under UN auspices, with request by the rebels and the Arab League should give the operation any legal cover it should need in both International and US law. Moreover, since NATO is also involved, our treaty obligations require us to act as well.

all of the mac users i know are casual to hardcore gamers. to say that the mac gaming community is a minority worth ignoring is not true. also, ALL of the mac users i know are more tech saavy than any of the PC users i know, who only use the internet, mail, and counter strike. In my experience, mac users are more apt to tinker with their machines(RAM,hard drives, video cards etc.) I think apple needs to re-evaluate its priorities and put performance before style.

Movies purchased from the iTunes Store can't be burned to a DVD or VCD that will play in a DVD player or Video CD.

No kidding. It's been like that for a year, old news.

Pretty disappointing, although I was the ONLY PERSON on macrumors and apple insider to call the LAME GAME update, which doesn't even work on the current 5G iPOD Video (at least this is what I read somewhere earlier today).

It does. The new iPod is just a size bump of the 5G, the new features are just software updates.

Holy moley, you mean it starts downloading cover art without asking or letting you turn that off? I don't want cover art, and I sure as heck don't want to use up bandwidth on my connection for cover art downloads, much less send out reports on what I care to keep in my playlists.

No, you turn it on in Preferences.

Whats the point in the 8 gig when you can get so much more capacity for only £20 more?!
Seems fairly bizarre really, you'd have to really like little black things to bother surely!

anyone getting one care to explain your rationale?

You can't be serious. Have you ever exercised? I personally exercise 5 times a week and I love listening to music when I do. The nano is so small that I can easily put it in any pocket and not even notice it. A 5G Ipod is a different story. That thing would constantly hit your leg and be annoying to work out with.

There is something to be said for the physical size of devices (especially PORTABLE devices), not just how much music or content it can hold. I also already have one big device- a Blackberry that I carry everyday. I don't need two things that size.

The only thing interesting in the above is the "64". I suspect it doesn't just mean "64 bit Intel chips in the Mac Pro and Xserve", but probably also relates to Leopard. If Leopard does have significant support for 64 bit addressing spaces etc, I wonder if that'll be on both the G5 and the ia64 versions?

BTW, even if I believed that Apple was going to come out with an Apple cellphone (and I don't (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=2674706&postcount=359), I've never seen so many people absolutely convinced of the existance of an unlikely product.), WWDC would unquestionably be a bad place to announce it. If you believe such a thing exists, wait for an appropriate consumer-oriented show or a special event.

Edit: Of course, the "64" could just mean that they're finally going to announce the PowerBook G5!

I suggest everyone give this a shot...

    http://public-consultation.org/exercise/

    Neat.

I had a surplus of $476B and solved SS 100%. I gutted military, but I bumped up United Nations, alternative energy, education, medical research, and worker re-training.

I also stopped just about all aid flowing out to other countries. I'll let Sally Struthers and the affluent private sector contribute if they want to... that is, if the affluent have anything left after the mondo taxes I dropped on them. :D

I think this is about giving OSX some of that developer love. Having watched people port their games etc to iPad, moving them to iOS on iMac should be simple enough - just another view and maybe higher res graphics if necessary. It opens up possibilities for developers and more customers.

Regarding touch on an imac- I imagine the biggest benefit of touch is the multi-touch aspect. I can imagine map & data exploration apps / programs become insanely compelling on a 22 inch screen, ergonomically slanted to be more like a surface.

Comments are right though- it feels too gimmicky for Apple. Steve Jobs has said he likes to catch technologies at a certain trajectory on the curve... this touch-screen on a big machine feels too low down on the curve and hence too big a risk for apple unless they've come up with a way to add it as a sort of "free" addition. Try to imagine the business case for a machine that has a 22" Retina display that is also a touch-screen... sounds expensive to me.

I think a flavour of iOS as a dock replacement or integrated into Finder makes some sense, opening apps (at least initially) in appropriately sized windows is, I imagine, very doable, especially as iOS is effectively just a subset of OS-X (excluding of course the touch functionality).

What I don't get is the touch "peripheral" being shown elsewhere in the forums... unless you have 5 cursors on screen (confusing), by not touching the screen itself, you introduce abstraction that just eliminates the tactile and simple nature of current multi-touch.

Finally, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't be excited about running multitasking multitouch apps from ipad etc on an imac 22" screen!
It would make their widget concept just so much more compelling if each widget was an iphone or ipad app, all running simultaneously on screen in one go.

Dude, that's the specs for the current Macbook.

Yes but it does clearly state Core 2 Duo in the product name and the release date of 13th November, they could have just copied the spec of the existing one as they are unsure of the new spec. What is telling is the date, they obviously expect it to happen on the 13th

That thread Spook posted is hilarious! Man we're so many people 100% wrong with their opinions... the iPod owns the world now! I wasn't a fan of Apple back when the iPod was introduced, so I didn't have any expectations. I didn't even know it was coming. But now I sit here with both my 3G 30GB and 5G 60GB iPods on my desk. :D

If you think about it, it's not all too surprising that some of these "professionals" are getting so worked up and sulky over this release. The notion that "pro editing" can belong to just about anyone, rather than an exclusive circle of elites, poses an existential crisis. Apple's re-thinking of editing is also a re-thinking of what it means to be "professional". The announcement sheds light on a future in which their "advanced", learned techniques are no longer advantageous. The "industry pros" are facing the plight of impending impotence. It's not something anyone would really openly admit, but I think they're feeling a bit naked, stripped of their status.

Who can blame them for being pissy?
I couldn't agree with you more, oh the poor professionals :(

They know that their days are numbered and so they are turning into big sooky ****s...... Fellas just deal with it.......Adapt or DIE...

mac is about sharing your creativity with the ones you love. In this era of myspace and mmorpg's do we need a nother form of social interaction with no physical interaction. I still think that istations are a good idea. I would like to be in line at the store and see a girl listening to ipod, and i see her ilisten light on, so I check out her playlist, though this is a lot like myspace, at least you have the ability to walk over and say "hey :) ,i love your station. I see from your event list that the band (...) is playing this fri. would you like to go with me  " Yes stalkers are inevitable, but this could be pretty cool.

Can't get the video to play right now, but the text sounds like Atheros writes the drivers for the built in Airport.

Sounds like a protocol bug to me if it works on different platforms and different vendors.
Hm, perhaps, the article is a bit vague on the subject.
Apple -- like many computer manufacturers -- outsources the development of its wireless device drivers to third parties. In Apple's case, the developer in question is Atheros, a company that devises drivers for a number of different wireless cards, each designed with drivers specific to the operating systems on which they will be used.
You're right, they make it sound like Atheros also writes the drivers for the built in Airport, but it doesn't say so specifically.

OS X ships with lots of default drivers for third party hardware, external wireless cards too, I'd imagine, and those could be the one we're talking about here.

Isn't the internal wireless device made by Intel? It's not sure Apple and Intel needs the help from Atheros to get drivers for that.

But even what the article says, I don't see why the demo would use a 3rd party wireless card if they could just as well have attacked the built in Airport.

Why wasn't I surprised it was you who gave this answer...

    sigh

You aren't very good at this. Consequently, I'm sure I must explain why:

You consistently post unsubstantiated claims of which you know nothing about, often in direct opposition to demonstrable facts, such as this one (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12258124&postcount=9), this one (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11846466&postcount=52), this one (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11681351&postcount=74), and this one (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11681229&postcount=60). As such, it's not surprising when you post a reply that follows the same theme: denying the existence of anything that negatively portrays the products or services you are personally invested in.

It's a pattern born from the same insecurity that would cause one to name himself after said product.

Your attempt at trolling me doesn't even make sense because the referenced posts don't have any similarities.
