Brendan Ravenhill

You might have caught Brendan Ravenhill's stunning industrial-style lighting designs online this past fall as he received a bit of press over his Bare Light, a hand blown delicate version of the classic light bulb along with his hex lamps, a bent sheet metal shade that spins and rotates to provide light where you need it.   With a sculpture degree from Oberlin College in 2001 and a masters in Industrial Design at RISD in 2009, Brendan is also a boat and barn builder and creates some unique furniture. Cool Decorating Trick

Jenny of Jenny's Hus mentioned on her blog this week that she finds it difficult to find nice wall lighting and I tend to agree.  Having looked for a while myself, there's not much out there.  But she solved the problem by making her own variation which now hangs in her hall.  The wall shelf bracket is from Ikea EKBY (although we don't get black versions here in N. America - easily solved with a slap of paint).  And the cord lighting is from a store called coop in Sweden.  One could always use the HEMMA cord set from Ikea I guess but not quite the same, or these from west elm.  I found something similar at Zangra (out of the Netherlands) but showed up to this post empty handed for a similar source here in N. America (anyone)?  The edison-style round bulbs can be found at west elm; however thought the Plumen lightbulb might work too. Cool trick Jenny!

Mad-Hatter Bedroom

Love the playfulness that this wicker-hat chandelier gives to this room that I recently came across in the May '09 issue of Chatelaine magazine. The magazine recently featured the home of Wendy Williams Watt, the (*former) owner of the Vancouver decor shop, Liberty. This is her daughter's room and I love how the black polka-dot/pom-pom-esque bedspread and wicker blinds all pull together with the lighting to create such an awesome space. Unfortunately there isn't a source for the chandelier, only that it was purchased when her daughter was a baby. Photography by Kim Christie.
