Colours this year are expected to be focused on shades of blue, according to a 2008 online poll by Kate Aspen. Any shade will do such as bright blue and cobalt blue, though Navy is out unless you pair it with red for a statement look. For local brides turquoise is to be a huge favourite which is not surprising considering the flamboyant and confident Gold Coast fashion.
Complimentary tones are also lightening up, no longer deep warm browns, but airy creams, beiges and soft taupe. When using the deeper shades of blue it’s a certainty that you must pair it with lighter tone neutrals to keep everything light yet still bold and dramatic.
The fashion runways indicate a decided turn towards sherbet tones, lemon yellow, pale peach and powder blue being among the most popular colours. Another fashionable colour from the runway seems to be grey, which goes wonderfully with the popular blue and metallic silvers.
For sherbet toned weddings don’t be afraid of using more than two colours. More and more couples are edging away from tradition, ignoring the rules and doing it their own way. A word of advice however if you plan to mix many colours together; keep it from looking messy by allocation one colour to each element. For a yellow, peach and pink wedding for example, have the flowers in two colours and keep the table décor to the other colour. Separating colours to be exclusive for each element ensures a stronger more unified look than everything being covered with all the colours.
Some very popular colour combinations emerging are turquoise with fuschia or orange and even just fuschia and orange for the bolder couples...
