Inspiration: A Few Clippings
It's a long weekend here and as we wind down, a bit of inspiration from some magazine clippings I've collected this week before we go. I love the flowers displayed in the above photo - especially seeing the hyacinths freshly cut and out of a pot, and don't the rannuculas look perfect in that mason jar? (Photo credit: Virginia MacDonald for Style at Home - Jun/11).
If weather permits I'd really like to hit up our local beach and see what treasures have drifted in over the winter. I quite like this home that was featured in June's Style at Home designed by the Kelly Deck here in Vancouver. It's got that perfect beachy mix, with lots of white which really helps brighten up a space in the sometimes dark and cloudy rainforest we live in. (Photo credit: Barry Calhou for Style at Home - Jun/11).
I sort of like the writing on the walls and ceiling too in this photo. Although I'm not a chandelier/romantic-style person, I may grab inspiration from it.
Anyway, off for a bit of a break over the weekend and to work on our newest market which will launch Monday! Have a great weekend. See you then.

Rock Collecting
Loving Cori Kindred's brand new *rock collections* mixed media art that just went on sale Monday in her shop: http://corikindred.etsy.com. Cori played off of vintage rock collections by using specially chosen gemstones as well as vintage boxes, paper and typewriters, but instead of labeling them by their proper name she picked words inspired by the shape and color of the stone.

Weekend Project: Spray Painted IKEA Lamps
The folks at Ikea's blog, Livet Hemma are like my dream DIY BFF's! Everytime I visit their site I'm yet again inspired. This time with their aluminum pendant lights, FOTO. Inspired by their readers who had sprayed some lights themselves Livet Hemma spray painted some FOTO lights with yellow, some soft pastels and a dull military green. It's a DIY that is super easy and cheap! Here's how (translated from their website):
Wipe the lamp with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Put masking tape on the end of the wires before you start spraying, it is easy to remove later when the paint has dried.
Put plenty of newspaper or cardboard for protection so you don't get paint on the floor or ground if you do this outside. It's important that it is well ventilated area where you spray.
Shake spray bottle well so that the paint is mixed well. You get a smooth, even results if you spray a bit thinner in two rounds. Let dry about 15 minutes in between.
See more pictures here.

Our Mini Vegetable Patch
This past friday after a zip in to see the new Vancouver Anthropologie, Janis of Pinecone Camp and Kate of Tiny Warbler and I hopped over to Main Street for a mini shopping/coffee trip when we ran into that amazing dollar store, Welk's. We were attracted by all the potting plants outside and then eventually inside. I happened upon this great fabric vegetable planter for seriously cheap ($12) which holds 33 gallons (120 litres) of compost - and so pretty soon after I was picking up seeds and a bean plant all the while being coached by Janis on the how-to. I really haven't planted any type of seed as an adult, so the whole thing is a bit foreign to me. But with Janis' coaxing, this weekend we planted some lettuce, carrots, radish and green beans. We're excited to see it grow, and I've been finding myself checking it each time I'm near the back. Wish us luck!
DIY: Vintage Book Expanding File
Cathe Holden of Just Something I Made created this expandable book file using a vintage book cover with a thrift store found expandable file. Click here for the how-to and if you're dropping by the Bay Area Maker Faire this weekend, she'll be giving a workshop there on how to bring new life to vintage book covers by turning them into covers for planners, sketchbooks, journals, and more. Click here for times. (Via Craft).
