New Column: TOOLS OF THE TRADE

Contributor post by: Shauna Alterio

I'm so excited to be back at poppytalk with a new series called: Tools of the Trade. This project is a result of my curiosity about the tools other artists / designers are using. I figure if i'm curious, you might be too. It's not a how-to series - it's all about the artists, the tools they started with, the upgrades they've made and the next gem on their wish lists.

During the year, we'll cover more than twelve trades, featuring my favorite artists / designers and their tools. the "trades" will include everything from photography, to calligraphy, woodworking, and let's not forget... sewing!

...yep, the first round is devoted to sewing. all week long you'll learn about six inspiring artists who use various sewing tools: Katie Kukulka, Ashley Anna Brown, Alice Saunders, Sue Eggen, Rachel Denbow and Casey Brown.

if there's a trade you're curious about, or an artist you love, let me know by adding a comment. i also want to thank jan for having me back as a contributor. since poppytalk was the very first blog to write about Something's Hiding in Here, it holds a very special place in my heart.

Shauna Alterio is a designer and one half of Something's Hiding in Here. Together with her partner Stephen, she can be found dabbling with all sorts of tools and techniques from letterpress printing to sewing. The duo added haberdashers to their list of titles this year when they created FORAGE, a line of bow ties made from vintage fabrics in limited editions.
