Toronto Design Off Site: Amanda McCavour

From the @comeuptomyroom event, at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto for the Toronto Design Offsite weekend, a two dimensional depiction made of thread by artist Amanda McCavour's living room. Her "thread drawings" are made using a sewing machine, then sewn into a fabric that dissolves in water leaving just the thread. See more here. (Via Moco Loco).

Darkroom is a concept store in the heart of London's West End. They stock an eclectic mix of high-end fashion, interior and lifestyle accessories, whilst there are art and sculpture exhibitions that rotate on a bi-monthly basis. It's certainly an interesting space - inspiring, too. The store explores the crossover between fashion and interiors, and with it the juxtaposition of materials, scale and form. Personally, given my penchant for bright colours, I'm lusting after their bright notebooks from last summer's collection. For all the details on how to visit Darkroom, check our their website.

IDS 11 opened this week at the Metro Toronto Convention Center with an exceptional array of designers, manufacturers and artists from across Canada and around the globe. One of the feature exhibits was SIBLING REVELRY which focuses on family ties by challenging four of Canada’s most creative siblings to each design and transform a 600 square feet of space. Sarah and Theo Richardson as well as brothers Jason and Lars Dressler are two of the sibling teams.

Visit their work and also place your bid for on a fundraising campaign which had influential designers and architects re-invent the iconic Vitra Panton Chair in support of IDS11 Opening Night Party's charitable partner, Casey House.

Weekend Project: Pom Pom Flowers

Keep your vases stocked with flowers (even in winter) with these super–cute pom-pom buds. Crafter Lauren De Bellis came up with this idea which Country Living Magazine picked up for their February issue. They suggest picking up some pom-pom makers through clover-usa.com, or we suggest to do it the old-fashioned way (which is pretty easy too). After your pom-poms are made add a bit of hot-glue to the end of a twig and insert into the centre of each pom-pom. Hold the two together until the glue dries (about 10 seconds) and then arrange. I'm off to find some fun "weekend project" to post about, but thought I'd stop in with a few fun links for the week; starting with this crochet monogram pennant. How awesome is this?
