I've only just recently discovered the beauty of anemones. They are simply so lovely and are fast becoming my favourite flower. They are in season in Australia in Autumn and Spring. The traditional flower meaning is "forsaken" and the flowers name is thought to come from the greek word "anemos" meaning "wind". Greek mythology says that the goddess Flora was jealous of a nymph Anemone and so transformed her into a wind flower and left her to the mercy of the wind. They come in lots of different hues; white, pink (light and dark) red, mauve, burgundy red and purple. Though I like the white most of all as it lends itself to black and white colour schemes very well. Just don't put them together with Narcissus as this flower will cause Anemones to droop.
