phm studio spaces: bueller
Artist: Bueller Designs
Website: Bueller.etsy.com and www.buellerdesigns.com
Blog: www.buellerdesigns.blogspot.com
Location: Beverly Hills
Where in your home/apartment/city is your studio located?
My dining nook is now my craft/creative "studio" and the end of my living rooms is my print shop and photography work space.
What equipment/tools do you use?
I use a method of photography called Through the Lens where I shoot a
digital camera "through" the viewfinder of an old vintage cameras. I
love collecting old cameras and have numerous ones I use mostly
duaflex and argoflex.
Do you have an inspiration board, and can you tell us what is inspiring you now?
I have an inspiration wall that I painted with magnetic chalkboard paint. I have pictures of rooms I like for my Bueller Designs blog as well as colors and images that move me to inspire my photography. Lately I've been really inspired by all things Anthropologie (which I'm sure everyone is). I love the modern - vintage look. There are three pictures in particular that inspire me: one is of a 2 kids in tents in the living room that was from an old catalog, I love this because of the whimsy and creativity and would love to do this when I have kids, the second is of a man reading a book in a chair that has a caption that reads "a month of sundays" - need I say more? It's just sexy, And the third is of Kris Karr (founder of Crazy Sex Life - my.crazysexylife.com), a dear friend who has changed my life forever with her wisdom and generosity of spirit and I love this photograph of her in the window just loving life. It brings me down to earth and reminds me to laugh. If she can laugh, I can laugh!
How do you create best (e.g. do you listen to music while you create and if so what?)
I create best in random spurts. Usually when I have a ton of other things to do and am way too busy. Somehow it turns into white noise and allows me to focus. I can also lose myself at the beach taking photographs and not realize a whole day has gone by. Suddenly the sun will be setting and I'll realize I've been out photographing waves for hours. The feeling when I get the one shot like that of IN MY DREAMS is what it's all for; the perfect color, the perfect wave, the perfect ray of sunshine. It's all worth it when you get that perfect second of life on film. There's something about capturing that perfect moment that only you were there to see that is so special.
List (3) of your favorite artists (with links)
Wow, this is hard:
Strandgut
Beatrice Peltre
Chris Jordan
If yours isn't, what would be your perfect studio?
My perfect studio would be a big converted loft in NY or Venice with cement floors and huge skylights. It would have huge amounts of space so I could think, move, lay things out and play. It would have brick walls and space for my 4x6 foot canvases. It would have phenomenal light and views. Oh to dream!!!
Thanks Bueller!
