the gulf of georgia cannery

I'm sure this plant wasn't the most fun place to work at, but I loved the scenes enough to take some pictures. This is the cannery plant and office of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery here in the lower mainland that is now a museum. The Gulf of Georgia Cannery is a complex of buildings constructed between 1894 and 1964 in response to changing technology and the needs of the industry. They include the main cannery building, icehouse, vitamin oil shed, drum storage shed, watchman's house and lead foundry. The structures are of wood frame and heavy timber construction and are supported, for the most part, by wooden pilings. The built area is 4,673 square metres. These are some shots from inside. I found it interesting how many of the designs, colors and fonts we use and revere today.
