If you haven't picked up Chatelaine lately, do! They have a new editor in chief Jane Francisco, formely from Style at Home and Wish, along with Wish art director Sandy Kim. The June issue is showing off their new look and also contains a sweet home section, including a few fun and easy (they claim 10 minutes) DIY projects. I thought this vintage chalkboard would be fun to do as a weekend project. Here's the how-to per Chatelaine:
1. Prep. Bring the empty frame to the lumberyard or hardware store and have a single piece of quarter inch MDF cut to fit. Most stores will custom cut for free.
2. Roll. Prime the board and let dry, then paint it with chalkboard paint. Put the board aside to dry and move on to the frame. Shortcut. Pour the paint directly on the MDF surface so you don't dirty a tray and pitch the roller when you're done (maybe not the most eco-friendly thing to do).
3. Spray. Place the frame in a well ventilated area dn spray away. It may take two or three coats.
Pop the board back into the frame, secure it with a few finishing nails and you're done!
