A South African Beauty
Will of Bright Bazaar sent me the September issue of Elle Decoration (UK) this past week and I had to show you this mountainside home of South African architect Lari Levy. Incorporating recycled materials, the mother of two radically revamped a 1930s house in the suburb of Fresnaye near Cape Town. Layering with different textures (reclaimed wood, bricks, cement) Levy has created interest and something not too showy or contrived into her design. A perfect mix if you ask me. I'm especially drawn to the reclaimed wood she has used for paneling and shelving throughout the spaces and in particular the shelves mixed with the white kitchen cabinets (top photo). (Pictures, Elsa Young; Styling, Luanne Toms/Frank Features). Thank you SO much Will!

Guest Contributers: Hindsvik Shop
We're thrilled today to welcome the talented duo, Daniel and Valeria of one of our favourite online vintage shops, Hindsvik shop. We invited them to join us as guest contributers this month, as we think you'll enjoy their unique finds and ideas!
Hi There!
We're Daniel and Valeria of Hindsvik shop contributing as guest bloggers!
Hindsvik stocks vintage pieces ranging from furniture, unique lighting, vintage storage crates, and small home decor items so decorating is a BIG part of our lives! We often go on road trips and travel for new products and inspiration is always just around the corner!
Lately we've been inspired by the arctic and glaciers, books and science and the primitive era. We're really loving materials like wood, glass and metal and early century cleaning tools like whisks and brooms. Japanese interiors are also playing key roles in our inspiration for the season.
With fall just around the corner, you've got to get your home in shape for the cooler weather! We've compiled our favourite vintage and modern decor picks for this fall season:

Really nice working coming from University of Brighton design student Kelly Satchell. Her typography skills are strong, not just for a student, but any young designer.

Sponsor Post: Handmade Wedding DIY's
On Friday I did a post on the magical wedding of Artemis Russell and Nao Utsumi on the Isle of Wright. Their beautiful handmade wedding got me thinking about all the places to look for resources like that online. Immediately I thought of our sponsors, Project Wedding and their endless resource for DIY ideas for a handmade wedding. I picked a few favourite "new to me" ideas I spotted there recently.
First off, my favourite (top photo): Flag Sculptures. They add such festive details to a special day which are made to be stiff so they stand out straight. Click here for the how-to.
Next, I thought this idea of Newspaper Wrapped Plants was rather brilliant and simple to create. They used the French newspaper, Le Monde Diplomatique for it’s heavy, shiny quality (and the romantic wording!), but any kind would work as long as it's mostly all text.
And finally I love this Colour Inspiration: Pink and Linen to create a cozy and romantic setting. They started with a white linen table cloth and another layer of natural colored linen as a runner. they then added plain white dishes, floral napkins and vintage silverware. They tied up the silverware with a lavender ribbon and added a homemade kraft paper tag. Click herefor all of the details.

Weekend Project: Beekeeping
From the people who brought us those colourful urban chicken coops, the Eglu we posted about last summer, UK-based company Omlet has now launched an urban bee keeping version aptly named, Beehaus.
Built with the urban beekeeper in mind, one can now enjoy the fascinating experience of keeping bees in your own garden or rooftop! These hives are specifically designed for urban areas. Each one has enough space to maintain a colony for one year in one hive versus the usual two.
According to a Guardian interview with Johannes Paul, owner of Omlet, "Bees numbers have declined so much in recent years that it's possible we're not going to be able to pollinate all the crops that we need to. The reason for this is that most bee hives are kept in agricultural areas, and so if more hives are kept in towns and cities it will help the population in general".
Omlet shows everything a newbie beekeeper needs to know. From starter kits, online how-to video's, and ordering bees. Of course this isn't for everyone, and they do recommend you consult with your neighbors first; but still, its another clever step closer to a greener world.

A Little Mix of Gig Posters
Methane Studios via GigPosters.com
In anticipation of Poppytalk's Mixed Tape Market (launching Monday), I put together a little mix of gig posters for you. I love the way visual art, graphic design, music, and hand crafted printing techniques all come together in this dynamic format. Johnny Cash is already hanging on my wall... something from Sonnenzimmer might have to be next!
