Angie & Tyson Tie the Knot

Guest Posts by Amy Johnson & Marilis Cardinal of Puces POP

Owners of Headquarters Gallerie & Boutique, Angie Johnson (designer for Norwegian Wood) and Tyson Bodnarchuk (visual artist) are Montreal’s reigning king and queen of handmade, so when they decided to tie the knot, we knew the whole affair would be a DIY dream. The intimate gathering took place in Angie’s parent’s backyard in her hometown of Winnipeg and was officiated by Tyson’s brother.

It was no surprise that the wedding party was essentially a who’s who of Montreal independent designers with Marc Simard of Broundoor, Yana Gorbulsky of Supayana, Elaine Ho of Roadkill, Fred Casia, Mike Giles of Furni, Judy Lawrence of Miju, James Kerr of the YPF and Amanda Moss of Covet .

The bridesmaid dresses were handmade by the bridesmaids themselves using a modified vintage Butterick pattern and various floral patterns. The entire wedding party wore handmade laser-cut military badges in lieu of boutonnieres/corsages, which the bride and groom joked were medals for surviving the wedding.

On the hunt for vintage pieces to alter into her dream dress at a second hand clothing warehouse Angie came across a simple wedding gown that fit her perfectly. Her veil was crafted from old pieces of tule, and once the lot was weighed, her outfit came to a mere $5 (yes you read that right)!

From the kazoo parade to the candy bar, every part of the day seems like it reflected the playful & colorful personalities of this creative duo. We wish them many years of crafty happiness!
