Summer is Coming and so are our Weddings!

We have had a gloriously sunny day here today which makes me think of summer and we are very excited about our up and coming weddings.

We did have our first wedding last weekend and have since had a lovely email from our bride, who BTW did a fabulous dance up the aisle!

Here is what Heather Jean sent us before she left for her honeymoon which I understand is going to last at least a year and she is planning lots of lovely weekends away!

Dear Laura

Thank you for everything, our decorations looked amazing, you and your girls did a fantastic job and please also thank Loraine for our beautiful, stunning wedding flowers, I am still looking at them as I type this and they are drying out ready for the album.

Big Hugs Heather Jean and Christian

With summer around the corner in mind, check out this gorgeous photo shoot on Style me Pretty by Heather Ham using the very popular and summery colour combo of hot pinks and turquoises with of course all the wonderful details that I so rave about and toil over ;)

It is well worth heading over to see the entire shoot which comprised of a photo booth, drinks station, cake table and entrance table, in fact I do wonder at times where the endless list at weddings will stop, luckily we seem to have one but can never resist a candy or cocktail bar, it is a decorating heaven for me!

Also talking of photo booths, we are of course trying to drag Spain into the 21st century of weddings and doing rather well to be honest but you must watch this space as we shortly announce a very exciting new product here on the Coast, which is of course a photo booth with props :)

I cannot wait to get in it with my false moustache ;)! It is cool, easily set up, fabulous photos and photographer so cannot go wrong, I cannot wait!

In fact I can feel a prop shop coming on! Photo booth sign to start with followed closely by strange feather boas, silly hats and dare to think what else will follow!

We will post more news about this shortly!

Art in the Landscape

I'm loving the art in the landscape installations I have been running across lately.  If you recall my post last week on the Blue Trees, and now I found these art coloured pencils (which aren't new to the internet apparantly, but new to me) by Finnish artist Jonna Pohjalainen who created them from fallen trees in the forest. Found via Juxtapoz Magazine via Finnish Site Specific Art.

Added to my Tumblr

Just added these espadrilles (via blog.freepeople.com) to my Tumblr but had to show you. Question. Should I bring fashion here every once in a while? Who's making the rules? I really love these.

DIY: Modular Storage

Ever since I found the IKEA blog Livet Hemma, I've been inspired constantly with all their fun ideas and DIYs to create one of a kind items using their products. And again today, I'm really loving what they did with their PRÄNT office storage boxes. They've created a fun modular storage system using black metal clips and a little paint for accents (a tribute to these perhaps)? Via   Bright Bazaar.

Collecting Collections

Contributor post by Lisa Congdon

Hi everyone!

I have taken a hiatus from contributing to Poppytalk for the last year but I'm back now with a new monthly column all about...you guessed it...COLLECTING! In this column, I'll showcase various collections (some famous, some not), interview collectors, share some of my collections and offer some resources around collecting. It's my passion, and I am excited to share with you.

Today I'm going to be a little self indulgent and talk a little bit about my book that just came out last week. It is, as many of you already know, all about my collections! In addition to full page images of the 365 collections photos in chronological order, it also includes: photos of my home and studio; an essay by Fritz Karch Collections Editor at Martha Stewart Living; and an essay by me about how I came to collect stuff, how I started my Collection a Day project and my thoughts on collecting.

As some of you may know, I started a project on January 1, 2010 in which I posted a photograph (and occasionally a drawing or painting) of one of my collections every day for an entire year. I posted those images on a blog called Collection a Day, 2010 . The blog became very popular with folks and pretty quickly I had loads of daily visitors. Sometime last spring, I got an email from Janine Vangool at UPPERCASE publishing. I've known Janine for about 5 years and have collaborated with her before on a much smaller scale at her gallery and in UPPERCASE Magazine. She asked me if I'd be interested in making a book of my project. I'd already been contacted by other publishers showing interest, but was secretly waiting for Janine to email me! If I was going to make a book from the project, I wanted more than anything for her to design it.

So at that moment we started to concept the book and began working on it shortly thereafter. Most of the ingenious design in the book (the size, layout, color choices, cover, the tin it comes in, etc) were all Janine's doing, but every step along the way she consulted me about the direction the book should take. It was a wonderful and easy collaboration! Around December 2010, things really started to kick into full gear. Our goal was to have the book printed and available in March 2011. We had to work quickly! At the end of December, I wrapped up the project, finished my essay for the book, and sent her all the photos of my home and studio that would be included. Janine then did the hard work of finishing the layout and all the other third party negotiations that come with printing 5000 copies of a book and a collectable tin.

Miraculously, in less than three months since the project was finished, we had a book! And I love it so much. Here are a few images of the inside:

You can purchase the book here along with some other Collection a Day goodies.
You can purchase a few prints of some of my collections here .
You can download free "collections" wallpaper for your desktop here .

I'll be back next month with something new! Stay tuned.

Autum Style Shoot

A couple of weeks ago we had the pleasure of working on a creative shoot with some industry professionals. The shoot's original concept was "meringue" but it seemed to take on a slightly more rustic and raw finish in the end. The colour palette was, from the beginning, very warm and earthy. After seeing the location with the tall grasses, weeping willows and open fields with the mountain behind I wanted to incorporate that in the florals so I went on a late night misson to find some native australian grass plumes. The flowers we used were palest pink hyacinths, full blown latte, cream and peach roses, montbrethia pods, belladonna seed pods with dusty miller leaves and fine leaf gum. The little fabric rossetes to decorate the soap favours and as a brooch on the bouquet were all hand sewn using linens, muslin and silk dupion. A few mismatched vintage chairs, our french love seat, a tarnished silver goblet and our old fruit and tea boxes completed the look. Our creative team: Photography - Photography by Shayla Gown - Brides by the Bay Make up - Embellished Make up Hair - Anna Felton Model - Casey Jewellery - Lisa Daniels Designs Stationary - Bespoke Letterpress And Imbue Weddings for all the hire, styling and flowers.
