I am sorry for posting this message on the Immigration group because it doesnt really relate to the immigration issues. I have been a part of this group for a long time, and hence I thought of sharing this with you all. Although we all are here in the US, we all have our families and friends back home in India. My aunt (father�s sister) is separated (not divorced) from her husband for over 17 years now. She and her 24 year old son (who was 7 years old when his parents separated) live with our family for last 17 years. Her application for visitor visa was rejected in year 2003 when I had invited her to attend my graduation ceremony. At that time I had not sent a sponsor letter. I have invited her to visit me again and this time I am sponsoring for her visit. She owns a house in India and her son owns a business.
Would her marital status (separated but not divorced) create any issues during the interview?

I was wondering if there is a way to efile for renewal of EAD & AP or do we really need a lawyer. It is turning out to be too expensive to file for a renewal through my comany lawyer. If it is possible, can someone who has already self filed advise of the procedure?

I have my H1B visa with NIIT. My petition and visa for the first 3 yr period expire in October 2008. I am returning to India in April '08 to do my MBA, and will resign from NIIT, and therefore will not be able to renew my visa.

If I want to work in the US after I graduate, say in August '09, can an employer file a transfer petition based on this visa? Or Will they have to file for a new one under the quota? And if so, is there a way that I can hang on to my H1 status?

i am guessing, your stamped visa (and also I-94 card on your passport) expires feb-2010. Since you have H1B (I797 notice), it should have I-94 attached to it with Feb-2011 date. If not then you need to go out of US , get visa stamped and enter back.

Has anyone been in a situation where they joined a new employer after having completed 180 days after 485-filing, and sent in AC-21 documentation through an attorney?

If so, which attorney did you choose for the AC-21 paperwork?

- The old attorney, that represented you and your ex-employer, and filed your labor, 140, 485, EAD, AP

- or the attorney representing the new company

- or a third attorney that you went and found on your own

What do you think is the best way to go, if there is a best way to go?

Dear fellow 'immigrants stuck in process' from MD,

I suggest that we all get together to discuss how we can help the effort that immigration voice has undertaken. I did attend an IV meeting in NoVa a few weeks ago, I am keen on pushing an initiative of meeting periodically to discuss how we can collectively help our cause on this side of the river.
