DIY Series - Silk and Ribbon Vases

Welcome to the first post in our series of DIY projects for your wedding styling and decor!

These gorgeous silk and ribbon covered vases are so easy to make. They're also very affordable. You can use any old container (something you've recycled would be ideal just as long as it's water tight) and if you are handy bits of fabric and ribbon you might have lying around. If you don't often sew or use fabric then pick up some nice silk and some ribbon to match the colour scheme of your wedding.

You will need:

Containers
Ribbon
Fabric
Knife
Hot Glue Gun
Spray adhesive
Scissors
Measuring Tape
Fabric Pen

Step 1:

Collect your containers, cut them to height if possible or measure their heights for the fabric.

Step 2:
Cut the fabric to size. That is, the height of the container by it's circumference adding two centimetres to both height and width so you have a one centimetre hem to play with.
Step 3.
At 1 cm intervals along the top and bottom of the fabric, cut one centimetre long slits. This will be easier if you mark the sections with the fabric pen first.
Step 4.
Spray adhesive to the underside of the fabric and roll your container on to it, turning the cut piece over the sides and sticking them down with the hot glue gun as you go.

Step 5.
Cut the ribbon to the same length as the fabric and hot glue gun it on to the container at uneven intervals. You could use many different widths of ribbon to add interest.
