The Twelve Days of Christmas Weddings ... The Wreath

Christmas is a time of joy and giving ... and receiving! For some people it brings with it enormous stress as they strive for perfection, not much unlike a wedding. I love christmas for the opportunity it brings to entertain family and friends, to create beautiful dinners, decorate the house and gift wrap presents. And what better time in the year will you find to indulge all your DIY skills?

Today is the first post of twelve in keeping with the festive season, showcasing some great ideas that have been born from christmas traditions, which can be used to decorate your wedding. First up the humble and elegant door wreath. Traditionally the christmas door wreath was made of holly which in pagan times was thought to give a magical protection. The wreath itself has been traced all the way back to Germany and the Lutheran tradition of the Advent Wreath made of evergreen and symbolic of God's Grace.

Today however, the wreath is a well loved, simple statement on the doors of many homes at Christmas time and to most it is a welcoming symbol. For weddings, the circle has always been a favourite to represent the never ending love of the couple. Whether you have a church wedding or not (even if there's no door in sight at your chosen venue!) a wreath is a nice touch on pew ends, the backs of chairs and even mantles.
