On my system all m4v and m4b (audiobooks) show up in the finder as protected but they are not. Regardless of the default app I set to open them....

You are obviously missing the point. Apple's new subscription model is preventing choice from coming to it's customers. How is that not a bad thing?
How up-front is the FT with its subscribers that it values the ability to sell their mailing address and contact information more than anything else?
I know that Pearson in general is heavily invested in getting iPad and other electronic readership up across their product lines. This is public information. The fact that FT sees subscriber information as valuable enough to stake its future on and to buck the overall corporate direction is very telling.
Until the FT reverses route, the ONLY rational response is to either not buy the FT at all (there are competitors out there) or buy it at a news stand.

Well I'm getting ready to go out tomorrow and purchase a brand new iPhone, but before doing so I made this post to see if anyone would be selling theirs for less than retail so I wont have to go out tomorrow and spend full retail plus tax on one.

I agree on the copying for own use. You should not be limited on something you have purchased. But you put 'profit' at the end of your 'list' that to me means you also sell the copies. That is what I and the movie studios do not agree with. Hence all this red tape crap with music and movie downloads.

In Mac OS X 10.6.7...
Japanese charaters works in Terminal.app while AppleLocale is set to en_US, en_GB or ja_JP.
But if I do:
defaults write -globalDomain AppleLocale sv_SE
and Log out and Log in. Then Terminal.app will display whitespaces instead of the charaters, both if I cat a file or open it in vim.
To reproduce, in Terminal.app:
$ cat
馬鹿たれ
馬鹿たれ
<Control+D>
Vim displays the correct UTF-8 hex values while the cursor is under a japanese character and pressing "g8", but Terminal.app will not display the character.
If I do not use the swedish locale, the week number will be incorrect, while date(1) displays:
$ date -v2011y -v4m -v23d '+%U %V %W'
16 16 16
All Cocoa apps that uses week number will display 17 /except/ for swedish when they display 16. (For 23rd of April).
In Terminal.app:

It's good, got my first one last week. It does get hot, really hot, but it's best interface I have ever heard. Going to add some heat sinks to the chips, that will help. Perfect timing with Pro Tools 9.

But anyway, this is in no way illegal. I would know, being a student of law. In addition, eBay AND PayPal have sided with me on this matter MULTIPLE times. The only time PayPal sided with the buyer was when they claimed they never got it and I had no shipping proof. The item is accurately described, end of story. Stop crying about it and be more responsible.
Just an ending note, I've made over $2,000 doing this before and used it to buy two amazing Les Pauls. ;)

If this is designed specifically for mobile text-based chat, I'll be all over it in a flash.
SMS and MSN and other text-based messaging have changed my life and the lives of deaf people around the world. Before, telcoms was a closed world to me, now I'm never without my O2 XDA mini :)
It isn't just Paris Hilton who carries a sidekick, millions of USA deaf people do, and I'm willing to bet us deaf form a significant proportion of sales of mobiles-with-qwerty-keyboards around the world.
Bring it on Apple, I'm sick of using Windows Mobile on my otherwise awesomely excellent HTC hardware.

So I bit the bullet and bought the complete game pack on my iPad 1. For some reason all of the games are playing in iPhone scale on my iPad. Taking up like 1/9 of the screen. Cometely unplayable. Has anyone experienced this and / or have a fix? Very frustrating......
