DIY: Leaf Canvases
A fun and easy project from the August '10 issue of Chatelaine. "Leaf Canvases", created by Ottlie Mason and Virginie Martocq (photography by Angus Fergusson) is a cute project using a scanner and sending the digital file off to a printers. See below for instructions (or pick up Aug's Chatelaine for more similar projects at chatelaine.com).
Leaf Canvases
MATERIALS NEEDED: A scanner and a computer. Leaves for the image you wish. Choose one that has an interesting silhouette. They chose fern leaves.
SCAN: Each leaf will need to be scanned and converted to black and white. To do that - one can use the scanner software that comes with most scanners, photoshop, or visit picnik.com (an easy online photo editor).
SEND: Once the image is ready to go, (with colour and size desired), upload to canvaspop.com. There, they will clean it up, enlarge/reduce, print and stretch onto a frame (and ship it back). Cool!
